Where did the idea of the Rize Enrichment Programs come from? What are the Programs’ outlined objectives?
The world is rapidly changing; new technologies and globalization mean that students today face new opportunities and challenges that require a new kind of learning and a more diversified skill set. With this in mind, we created Rize Enrichment Programs, an after-school program designed to expose students to new 21st-century-relevant subjects such as AI, strengthen core existing ones such as Math and teach culturally significant subjects such as Arabic Poetry, as well as help with university preparation and applications, making students ready for whatever the future may hold. In order to achieve this, Rize focuses on STEAM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.
What do you mean by Rize, and why did you choose an English name?
The word Rise means move upwards. Replacing ‘s’ with the letter ‘z’ signifies our audience, generation Z. We chose an English name for a few reasons: STEAM subjects are taught in English across UAE schools, an English name helps students get into a global mindset, and we conducted focus groups with students, who showed excitement for, and associated with, an English name.
However, we understand the importance and value of the Arabic language, and we place heavy emphasis on teaching culturally significant subjects such as Arabic Poetry, Arabic Language and Arabic Calligraphy.
